  1. Okay so I'm starting a place where you can ask questions about SM Entertainment. Please feel free to comment.

  2. Hi, even though I know a lot about SM and I know people who are SM trainees, no one could really answer this question, they all say it differently so I'll give it a shot and ask you: After the e-mail/post audition, do you still have to pass another audition in the U.S or they will call you to Korea, because SM say that the post audition is like the US weekly audition, and I think when you pass the weekly audition they ask you to go to Korea, I'm not sure how many rounds there are in the weekly audition tho. And if they call you to Korea, will they pay for the tickets, I think no, but a lot of people say yes or it depends on what the letter they sends you say. Thank you in advance. :D

  3. HI! i was the one who asked the certificate thing! well,i really wanna know if you have to bring it because it's very important i really need a yes or no answer only please. sorry i'm a little *makulit*! =))

  4. Hey Trish,

Sorry I took so long getting back... Our Grandma is here visiting.

About the audition if you closer to LA then Korea, I would think that you would have to go to LA. It’s closer... Then if you passed that you would go to Korea. I could be wrong but I judging by what would work with possible trainees... they don't want inconvenient you.

I may be wrong… but my guess is that you’ll go to which ever is closer. (Until the final round with will be in Korea)

    ReplyDelete
  5. Okay so about your birth certificate. Bring it along. You can't go wrong with taking it and thinking about it they might want to make sure you are who you say...

I'll see if I can find anything more about that for you.

  7. Hi SM girl!
I REALLY want to get into SM entertainment! But I have no idea where to start. Could you please tell me what to do? I am 15 and I take singing lessons. I want to be like Sunny in SNSD being able to sing and dance. I am only half Asian but don't really look Asian. Is that all right?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hi Vicki Lau,

Singing lessons are a great way to start off. Get good at that and you're on your way. 16 is the best age to audition if you live in USA, do to certain school tests. I admire Sunny also. She's pretty and funny. Find some dance classes either online or take dance from your school or local junior college. Being half asian is good as SM wants new looks and so you being half asian would work. I hope I answered all of you questions... if you have more just post them!

  9. Hi!
I'm planning to audition via email. Do you think they'll actually look at it or just ignore it? And I watched SHINee's Lee Taemin audition clip on youtube, and he seemed to have included a dance solo in his audition. If you're auditioning to be a singer, do you also have to prepare a CD to dance to? And is freestyle dancing part of the singing audition too? Do you have to have a really strong, powerful voice to succeed in auditions? Sorry for all the questions >.<

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hmm,hi.. Is it okay if we dun Noe how to speak Korea language? Do we need to know how to play instruments?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hi Jeanette

Yes... if you don't speak Korean they will teach you. No, you don't have to. But if you do thats a plus.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Hey jojopup!

They will look at it as long as it’s not to long. No... if your auditioning for singing then your fine. BUT if you audition for dancing they WILL MAKE YOU SING ALSO.

There is a rhythm check and if you want to get the next audition you have to at least move in time with the music they put on.

Well in the audition you have to a have a voice that is loud enough for everyone. Because you don't get a mic.

  13. Hello SM girl.
I am 13 live in Singapore.
I can speak English and Mandarin but I can't speak Korean.
Is there a place for audition in Singapore for SM Entertainment?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Thx... Will I be able to contiune my studies in to e university or I need to stop my education? Cause I am taking my A levels next year abd i want to get into a Uni .. But at the same time I want to try auditioning and be part of the entertaiment industry .

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hi Lenalee

Its great that you speak English and Mandarin. They will teach you Korean so no worries there.

As for as SM says they don't have an audition in Singapore... sorry.
I would still check SMTOWN and see about their global auditions.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Um... If you're under SM they will actaully pay for college... So you can still do school and train.

You can do both... its just going to be hard for you.

    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  17. will SM hold audition in singapore or malaysia? when will it be? thank you :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. As for as SMTOWN they have not released dates for the global audition. Just keep checking there site and maybe it'll be announced.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well I just wanted to ask if I would sing in the video, should it be acapella?
& I live overseas so i'm going to send an e-mail to this :smaudition@smtown.com
is this right ?and if i send the application(my info),would I already include the video of me singing?
just wanted to make sure of everything.
And by the way i'm only 13 years old and i'm not fluent in korean, ami still eligible to audition?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi!

Okay so yes you need to sing acapella. Its fine to send it there, either would work. Right down your info and attach a link or file of your talent. 13 is okay but I would wait a few years. They wouldn't want to debut someone to young, so you might have to train for a while then. Wait a little while. Knowing Korean will really help getting into SM but it is not needed.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hi SM girl,

I'm 15 dis yr, frm Singapore.i'll be havin my Olevels nxt yr, so, would 16-17 yrs old too old for the audition? And are looks very important? how long might the average trainig duration be b4 u get to debut? sorry about the long questions ^^

    Thanx:D

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi Minnie,

16-17 is not to old to audition. In fact I would say that is the best age.
Looks are do matter but SM is wanting some talent also. Training with depend on you... some train for years while others very short time. Average... I'd say 3 years.
    All the questions were fine.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Do you ever think an indian or black person would ever get into SM Entertainment??

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would say it would be harder, but not impossible... SM is looking for global stars... (Stars from everywhere!)

So you would have a chance it might be lower than an Asian person. But give it 100% and you have a shot.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey(:

Do you have any idea which emails do we send our applications in to for the respective companies?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hi YINGTING!

Okay so if your sending an Email audition for SM here it is.

    smaudition@smtown.com

    ReplyDelete
  27. hi!

is there something wrong with the sm website?
i couldn't visit it to check stuff...
did they announce the next venues for the global audition yet?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Okay the the Global auditions are out. But they only seem to be in Korea. At least as of now.

    Sorry!

Wish you the best of luck!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi SM Girl Im Yadira and I was wondering...
Do you have to be asian or part asian to join/audition for SM?

    ReplyDelete

In fact all let you read part of the email the sent about that.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm very sorry everyone! My laptop was in repair for the last couple of days and I was unable to do anything!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Alright...

Requriments for SM... well just be able to sing or else dance.

For the email or post audition... just do your singing... If you want you can do the dance, just make sure the video isn't too long.

I wouldn't know about having asthma or heart problems...

Yes you can still audition at anytime through email and mail (post) or live in LA or Seoul.

I would love to see your videos.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hi Emma,

I will look at you videos as soon as I get a chance!
I'm sure your not as fat and ugly as you say.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey Seoul's girl.

Okay so I have another friend that never got a reply. My suggestion is to wait at least another month and resend you audition.

If you send them a whole bunch they'll mark you as spam and never read them at all.

  44. Sorry, what song should I sing for audition? Like what kind... ? KoreAn?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Whatever language you speak would be best. They want to hear your voice. Who cares about the words :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi SM Girl

Im a Singaporean & turning 21 this year. Is it too old for the audition? I speak both English & Chinese. >.< I dont have a nice figure & I look normal, just like any other girls in Singapore.=(

If I send in my application through email, do i have to attach my photo as well? & also, if i attach a file or link of my singing. Must that be in a video format? Must it be in acapella? Or I can just attach a file/link I've recorded in a CD (recently) and send it to them?

By looking at my looks, do you think I stand any chance?

Sorry for e trouble & hope to hear from you soon. =) Thank You Very Much

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hey Jess!

Okay so your not to old as long as you have more talent than your average person auditioning.

Its good that you speak 2 lanuagess. :)
Your looks can always be better with makeup. Its amazing what Stars look like without it!!!

If you send your audition through email you attach a photo of yourself and a video of your singing. Don't send them a CD with an email audition. Trust me.

Yes you ahve to sing acapella. Since you have the CD done why not send SM your audition through mail?

I can't really see your looks. Send me a picture to this email address.

    pau.sarah@yahoo.com

I use that account email for SM Stuff. :)

  48. Hi,

So I'm going into college this year. I really want to complete college (I plan on 3 years) and train at the same time.
Do you know what SM thinks of that?

Also, I'm 18. Is that too old to audition? Because I know they usually want to train for at least 2-7 years.

According to everyone I know, I have a good singing voice, not great, but definitely better than average.
    My dancing is...decent...ha.
And I'm half Taiwanese-half Caucasian (So I am pretty good at speaking Mandarin).

    http://www.wretch.cc/album/album.php?id=ohmyjustine&book=5

    http://www.wretch.cc/album/album.php?id=ohmyjustine&book=12

Those two albums are of me. I know, I look more Asian than white. But do you think I would fit the image SM is looking for?

    Thanks - J

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hey J!

Yes you can train and do college at the same time. Many do that. It will be hard but if you truely want it you'll surive. :)

18 is not too old. As long as you have the talent age doesn't matter as much. Just make sure you confident in you area's of talent.

Your talents sound better than mine as I can't dance... ;) Its good that you speak English and Mandarin. Because at some point SM with teach you a lot of languages.

Your looks are perfect!!! Trust me, your cute and you almost look like Sunny from SNSD. But with wider eyes. :)

I think you have a very good chance of getting into SM!

    Good Luck- SM girl

  51. HI SM Girl.

Im from Singapore, Going seventeen this year.
I am really interested in going for the SM Audition. Do i have to make the trip to LA or Seoul if i dont sent the application through email? (cus im really afraid they wont even look at it)

I can speak and write in english and chinese.
Meanwhile im trying to learn korean as well.
    Will that help much?

And also is it true that SM look at 80% appearance?

    I know im asking alot,
But hope you will help me to answer them all.
    Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hi!

Okay so I'm going to say right off. Your age right now is perfect for auditioning.

Chances are they will send you a reply (If you do email audition or post) that they want you to go to a global audition. Which you can wait for... but I think your chances of getting into SM would be best if you did go to LA or Seoul.

Yes knowing English and Chinese are big advanteges and the biggest is knowing Korean.

No its not true. Its more like 50% looks 50% talent.
And if you think about it 50% is a lot on looks.

I hope I answered all of your questions. :)

    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hii, Thanks for listening to my vids.. >///<
Erm, I do not know what to do for an online audition.. I cant access the SM web at all.. T^T

  54. You can't? It works for me... Hmmm... well just send your audition to here.

    smaudition@smtown.com

or if you live in the US

    Hope this helps you!

  55. Hi, Im 14, and I'm planning to audition for SM next week with two friends (15 and 16 years old) in the weekly LA auditions.

I was wondering if i could learn a Kpop dance
routine instead of freestyle dancing. I am
auditioning with singing, but i also want to
dance for more chance of getting in.
Maybe something like the Wonder Girl's Tell Me or SNSD's Genie.

    Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hello Selah,

Well dancing would be a good idea. But its not a good idea to dance something from SM or JYP. I'm sorry.
There are many cool dancees on YouTube that would be a better choice.

    :)

    Your welcome.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hey, I auditioned for email and I got this response: Thank you for sending us your pictures and video clips. We would like to offer you a chance to participate in one of our global auditions, but the dates of the audition have not been set yet. We will let you know when the audition schedule has been set. Thanks for your application again. - What happens now? haha. This is July 25th

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well they haven't come out with global auditions yet. The dates are decided. So all you can do is wait and then when they are ready SM will let you know and then you go try out live in a global auditon.

    Good luck Bob!

    ReplyDelete
  59. ah, you know when this might happen? Like.. near future or what?

    ReplyDelete
  60. It rumored to be this fall. 2010.

    ReplyDelete
  61. HI, i was wondering, so i've heard a lot of old rumors about SM and stuff, like how cruel they are and stuff but since LSM has retired and stuff, is SME a good place?? like how they treat you and stuff.

so the auditions hafta be acapella and you can't do a dance cover???

    ReplyDelete
  62. Those are all rumors. I believe that things might be hard but not cruel.

Most artists actaully got greedy and such signed a long contract... which they now regret. And there for are now upset at SM. That may be the source of these rumors.
I think SM is a good place.

Yes you have to sing acapella and its best if you don't dance a cover.

Good Luck! Hope to see you at SM sometime!

    ReplyDelete
  63. hi!!!
I've just auditioned by email yesterday, and basically how long do i need to wait ?
some days, or a week, month???

and I'm not asian at all but I do look like, they always think that I atleast half asian lol

anyway do you think they'll accept me even if i can sing, or being cute.

Btw I'm 21, but I look younger than my age, Am I to old?

    Since I'm not asian, plus I'm 21, I think I've almost no chance -_-

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hi!

Okay for the waiting part... some people get a reply in a few days. While another friend of mine got it about 2 months later. So you'll just have to wait it out and see.

They might want you a little Asain but they are looking for Global stars so they are accepting any race!

They can accept you(probably)if you cute and can sing. Thats a very good thing.

Since you look young your fine. Nicole from
F(x) is a lot older than the rest of her group memebers.

You have a fair chance. Understand it will be hard but never give up and you can always achieve your dream!

    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  65. thanks, You helped me a lot !!!!!

you probably means Victoria from f(x), nicole is from 'kara' ;)

just a last question, when I sent my video by email, unfortunetly, the video was so small and bad quality because I can't send it with a big size since I used to get some failed message

Do you know how to re-send it with a good quality?
I think I'm the only one with this prob :(

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hi!

Just wondering if height is an issue for girls since I'm only 148cm but I am already 17!(I doubt I will grow any further!) All of my family members are short, heredity you know :( Isn't it weird to be performing on the stage? Would height be an issue to judging?

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Hello.
I'm 14 and i was wondering what the requirements were for a singing audition. Please respond.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hello again Miss Chan,

    I'm glad I helped you.

Yes I meant Victoria. I get her name mixed up because I have a sister named Nicole (who is older) and then a sister named Victoria (and she's younger)so I get them mixed up all the time. Haha.

Alright I know that sometimes if you change the video format i.e. wav, avi, mp4, flv, etc. To another format... it can make the size go down but keep the HQ.

    Good luck.

    Hello Kyle,

Okay so height... you can't be too tall. But short... that is short but SM does have certain members (boys) wear special shoes to make them taller. I would consider looking into platform shoes to make you taller for auditioning, because you will get judged for height.

    Hi Adam,

Okay for singing, you'll want to find some good songs you enjoy but aren't weird. (No stuff similar to Lady GaGa) Classical songs might work well along with Jazz.

So after find some songs, (have about 5) work on them!!! Practice them all the time work on getting them down with emotion.
Be ready for anything during an audition and you'll do fine.

Sorry everyone for the late response. I'm having trouble auditioning because my parents aren't letting me to go.

  69. Hello SM Girl ^^
Its really nice of you to open this to help all those people interested to audition for SM. Including me ^^
Okay so im Singaporean and going to be 14 this september and i plan to send in an email audition to SM like arnd end of 2010?
Yes anyway, i would like to know if there is a specific size for photos eg. full body, half body? Also can it just be a simple picture and i hope i don't need to book a studio or whatnot? Anyway im really interested and this is a really 34 second video of me singing A Whole New World.
It is 34 seconds coz i really am not confident of my singing... No one told me i can carry a tune or anything of that sort.
Even if you tell me i sound like a dead crow, its okay i welcome constructive comment so please comment. As you can see, no one have commented yet and i really think that aft listening, ppl dun wanna hurt my feelings by commenting. HELP?!
    Thanks alot ^^

  71. Hello,

Okay for photos don't have them super large but not small either. Somewhere in-between.
I'd do a full body shot, half body and then face shot.
No you don't need a studio. Just find a friend that’s good with a camera. :)

Okay so I listened to your singing. Here are some things to work on. But first off let me say you can carry a tune nicely. :)

Your voice is kind of unsteady when singing so it doesn't really flow. But that is partly the mic. You used the built in one right?

It was mostly just your breathing and unsteadiness. But those are easily fixed with training.

    I hope I helped you.

    And good luck!

    Sorry for the late reply.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Thanks for the comments XD
I really hoped that someone would give me comments and i think your the first so thanks for that!! Now i know im not tone death haha
I use a phone mic. Hmm... Do you know what mics would be good for recording??
Do you think that i have at least a little bit of talent? Like i'll become good after training??
Thanks i've always wanted to audition for sm but i hv no confidence in my singing D:

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm honored to be the first... haha.
Yes you're most certainly aren't tone deaf. As for mics I don't know whats good. Sorry.
I think you have some talent. I'm not good at being able to tell so early on without training. But anyone can get good at least somewhat good at singing. And pop takes about the least amount of talent. So it shouldn't be to hard. (btw I want to be a pop singer)

Good luck with you singing... here are some videos that might help you with your singing.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/voiceofjennylyn#p/a/u/1/cVXvmkgKQzc

Check out all her videos. It should be helpful.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Thanks... I think its time i went around my whole country to look for a nice vocal coach or something :D
I hope with some training i would be able to sound decent or even nice ^^
You wanted to audition too right?
Also all singers have to do a rhythm check on the spot with a random song. And i can't impromptu dance. Any tips??

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yes I want to audition. Hopefully in a couple days I'll send in an email audition :D

They say you don't have too... but if you want into SM you do.

I'm not the right person to ask about dancing. I know nothing... YIKES.

    Sorry no tips :(

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hi! Um...I'm sending an e-mail audition but I'm not quite sure what to do.
I'm a singer, but I don't know how to send a clip? Do I send a video of myself singing, or a recording of myself (audio only)? And how would you put the photos in the email? And would it be better to send both singing and dancing? I'm not too good at dancing, but pretty decent.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Hello Vic,

Okay for sending an email, (which by the way I'm planning to do in a couple of days) Would first make sure that your VIDEO isn't too long. Try to have it under 6 minutes.
I would do video not audio...
For the photos just attach them in the email.
If you can sing and dance do both. Its a bonus if you can do both. :D

    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Hi, I have a few questions.

    1) What is the email for the email auditions?
    2) What do you put in the email? Like, name, age, etc?
    3) I'm 12, is that a good age to audition?
    4) Do you have to send a clip of myself freestyle dancing, or can it be a cover?
    5) Do I have to be absoulutely amazing at singing and/or dancing? Because in Seohyun's audition clip, she was not amazingly talented in singing..

    Thanks. (:

  79. Hi!

    1. Email... theres 2. One for Korea and then for USA. For USA. usaaudition@smtown.com
    For Korea. smaudition@smtown.com

    2. Fill this out.

    1. Name / Sex

    2. Ethnicity

    3. Nationality / City

    4. Category being applied for

    5. Height/ Weight

    6. School / Year

    7. Contact Information (1) Phone (2) E-mail (3) Homepage

    8. Address

    9. Miscellaneous Information

    3. 12 is okay... But I'd wait until at least 14. You get in at 12 your going to train for a lot longer. Best age to audition 16.

    4. I would do freestyle but if you wish to do a cover make sure its really good.

    5. No you don't have to be super good at singing or dancing. But you most show that you can get amazing at singing and or dancing.
Like know Seohyun is a very good singer. :D

    Your welcome.

BTW if you wait to audition you could work really hard on getting really good at both dancing and singing. Doing so would really increase your chances of getting in. :D

    Good luck!

  80. hi you.... can you help me??? please....

    ReplyDelete
  81. i want to join SM audition...but the only song I can sing is I'm alone by Tiffany (SNSD)...i'm feeling so bad...please help me...hixxxx...i'm not good at singing, dancing - i think... what am i doing now huuu..i really really want to join SM ent...

    ReplyDelete
  82. Well how old are you? Is my first question for you.

If you young you can work and gain skills in singing and dancing.

    ReplyDelete
  83. ohhh thank you so much...I'm 16 years old...hiccc...Can i have a chance???..

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yes. You still young :D

my suggestion for you is to find a classical singing teacher. (Classical better than pop teachers) If you or your parents can pay for that do that. Have weekly lessons.

Also enroll in a dancing class (if your not) junior colleges have some cheap yet good classes.

Work for at least 6 months on you singing and dancing.

You can go longer if you'd like, once you feel like your getting better... don't stop but work harder!

    You'll make it!

    ReplyDelete
  85. ohhh...thank you...but i think i can't join dance club...it's ok???...and can I sing I'm alone for my audition??? or can't sing SM songs for SM audition???it's right????? please help me...

    ReplyDelete
  86. Why can't you enroll in a dance class? Does you school offer one?

No don't sing I'm alone for the audition. You would be comepared to Tiffany (who probably spent months getting the song down right) So don't.

A nice song you could sing is something like... Only Hope~ Mandy Moore.

    :D

    ReplyDelete
  87. uhmmm....because my parent they don't know I want to join SM...soo...I don't have money...huuu
and can i sing red bean - East of Eden OST???...it's a good song..

    ReplyDelete
  90. I would think it best to choose a song your voice sounds best in.
But don't choose a song thats really famous.
And sing in your first langauge. Since it'll be your best.

    ReplyDelete
  91. uhmmmm....thank you so much...and what about dance problem....I don't dance for my audition...It's OK..???

  93. Its okay. But you'd get extra points if you could dance. I mean I can't dance so I found this easy hip hop dance on youtube. I've made a few changes but thats what I'm going to do. You could try to find something like that online. :)

  94. uhmmm....thank you sooooo muchhhhh...you make my life...haaa...and i have a question...I'm a Vietnamese girl so I can sing Vietnamese songs for my audition?????

    ReplyDelete
  95. Sorry for disturbing you a lot....

Because I can't go to Korea to audition so I'll send my audition video to SM's email......Does SM allow using micro and singing with beat(Instrumental) in audition video....???

    ReplyDelete
  96. Okay since you vietnamese go ahead and sing in it. After all they're judging you voice not the words.

You can use a mic but nothing else. Just you singing, no music or beat.

    ReplyDelete
  97. now I know it! thank you so much!

you seem to know well about SM..... are you going to join SM???

if so, best luck to you!!!

  98. Hi there SM girl ^^
Its really nice of you to answer question !
I hope youll become a sm trainee !
Well I have a few questions of my own to ask ;s
    1. Im currently 12 years old (using friends Gmail) and wondering if its a right age for me to audition?
    2. If I do auditions via email and make it to the second round in korea will they pay for my ticket? (Some say, no since your not a trainee yet)
    3. I do want to continue my studies, since I might want a different career in the future. (Im smart and in enriched classes, which means Im one of those smartist kids around. -_-)
    4. When Im doing email auditions, is it really worth it? Some people are saying they dont even check.
    5. I live in toronto, if my email gets accepted would I have to wait till global's to audition ?
    6. If I dont debut what will happen to me?
    7. Is it really worth it?
I cant sing my hit single when Im 40. roflmao
So is a promising a career like a marine biologist better ?
    8. What will I do when my contract ends with sment when Im 28 for example ?
    9. Im 4'5 and just turned 12 29/06/2010, will they still accept me ;s
    ----- Details About Myself
Im 12 of course, Im 18lbs/8kg and struggling to gain weight.
Im considered above average looking without makeup and have a "Baby Face" which makes me look 4 years younger. ;s I can sing and dance. Ive been in the school play years ago and had a one year lesson of ballroom dancing. Im skinny of course but not stick skinny. I have double eyelids, and a clear complexion. (Except for a few small moles). Thanks you for taking your time to read this. ^^

    ReplyDelete
  99. 3. Will i continue getting a education*

    ReplyDelete
  100. Hi Jaejae!

Yes I hope to join SM. I sent in my email audition a few days ago. Now I need to wait for their reply.

    Hey lunaishhere!

Thanks for wishing my luck! I'll need it!

    1. Im currently 12 years old (using friends Gmail) and wondering if its a right age for me to audition?
Depends on where you live. But the best age normaly for any country is 16.

    2. If I do auditions via email and make it to the second round in korea will they pay for my ticket? (Some say, no since your not a trainee yet)
They will pay for at least the final audition round in Korea. I know this because of my friend (SM Trainee) :D

    3. I do want to continue my studies, since I might want a different career in the future. (Im smart and in enriched classes, which means Im one of those smartist kids around.
That’s really cool! I was never the brightest kid in school.

    4. When Im doing email auditions, is it really worth it? Some people are saying they dont even check.

They do check. It can take up to 2 months for them to reply though.

    5. I live in toronto, if my email gets accepted would I have to wait till global's to audition ?

    Most likely.

    6. If I dont debut what will happen to me?

You won't debut because of these reasons. You get to old and aren't picking up your skills fast enough. Or you quit. You work hard, you'll make it.

    7. Is it really worth it?
I cant sing my hit single when Im 40. roflmao
So is a promising a career like a marine biologist better ?

Maybe maybe not. Its for you to know. What is your life passion? I didn't figure mine out until I was 18. (still am btw) But I know that I want to sing. I wish I had known sooner. Think about what you enjoy. You'll find out what you want.

    8. What will I do when my contract ends with sment when Im 28 for example ?

They will either want you to stay and extend your contract or they don't want you anymore and then you're done. I don't plan to remain is SM for ever. I wish to sing afterwards also into my later years.

    9. Im 4'5 and just turned 12 29/06/2010, will they still accept me ;s

Since you’re young I guess you’re going to get taller so no worries there.

    ----- Details About Myself

Your welcome! But how can you weigh 18 lbs? That is the weight of a baby! Your looks sound really good! Looking young will help you stay younger looking when your older which means you could probably stay with SM longer. :D

    3. Will i continue getting a education*

You can continue studying in Korea. They will pay for schooling. :)

  101. Thanks SM Girl <3
You really helped me a lot :)
I hope you get in! :D

  102. Hi SM Girl,

Sorry for bothering you but I have a big problem ... I am living in Europe and I don't know how to send a video ~~ Do you think that if I sing in front of my webcam it will be okay??(I will have to send the video on msn then but don't know if it would work ...)

I am so tensed because I am already 21 T.T

I can speak French, English, Spanish and Vietnamese but don't know Korean :/

And about my physical appearance, I am too thin :O

    Thanks for your help!!
    Have a nice day ~~

    ReplyDelete
  103. Glad to help you! :D I hope to see you soon also!

    Okay Lady Jose!

Don't worry! For recording your video I would use a camera as the webcam doesnt have HQ. And just send them the video through your email. Attach it.

21... that is older than like most or maybe all trainees. But Victoria from Fx is kinda on the older side. But as long as you don't look old and are already talented in areas such as Singing or Dancing then you fine. Age shouldn't matter to much.

Um too thin? I doubt it. SM loves their artists thin. You'll be fine.

    Have a great day!

    And good luck!

  104. Hi!

Please help me answer my doubts!

May I know how many rounds of audition I have to go through if I got selected via email? Maybe describe the whole process?

Let's say after I got selected through email, they will mail me back telling me to go to Korea for audition? How many rounds of audition would there be in Korea? 3?

And if I make it to the 2nd round audition in Korea, I have to stay in Korea for the period and prepare for the other audition rounds, then in this case would I have to pay for the accommodation in Korea during that period myself?

Like you have answered above, what do you mean by they will pay for the flight ticket for the FINAL audition in Korea?

    Sorry for bothering! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Hello Jamie,

First off let me say that I made this blog so that you people could ask questions about SM. Its not a bother. :)

Audition rounds... there are 3. I have not been selected through email before so I can't explain it all. But my guess is if they want you they'll let you audition for them live. Wheither its a global audition or a weekly one in Korea.

You need only 1 round in korea. But it can be up to 3.

I think SM will pay for that stuff. And if you pass the second audition they'll let you know within a day. So you won't have to wait a long time for the next audition.

They'll pay for the final round at least. Maybe if you pass the email audition you'll get lucky and they'll pay for you to fly to korea for the 2 audition. I don't know for sure. But since I've sent in my email audition I guess I'll find out.

Good luck and wish me some also! :D

  111. Hi SM Girl,

I am not Korean nor American nor Chinese, I don't know Korean. I can speak English and a little of Chinese.

I want to try out the audition but it seems like I have a lot of disadvantages.

BTW, what is a scanned photo? Photo is suppose to be taken from a mobile phone or cam, but they say no to those pictures???

    ReplyDelete
  112. ohhh thank you so much....now I can read it...i have a question....

'5. You will have to send a email message to my email so you have to have a email account.'
    soooo what is email address???
and I must cover how many SM's songs in my vid....

    ReplyDelete
  113. Okay its fine if your not American, Chinese or Korean. You can speak some English and Chinese which is very good. :)

About the scanned photo just make sure you use a normal camera thats got good HQ. A scanned photo is like a picture taken on film. If its like that you can scan them so that you can put them on your PC.

Hope that helped! :D And I hope you do well!

    Hey JaeJae,

She hasn't given out her email address yet. She will later. :)

I'm kinda confused. I hope this isn't a scam. If they ever need personal info don't give them any!

  116. Hi there

If I'm a Singaporean, can I participate in the Fb thing too? I'm 16, having my GCE this year. I don't know how to dance, I think my voice is average however whenever I record it, it doesn't seem like it.

they will pay for my schooling fees right?
they will train us too right since we are now sm trainee , but where do we stay when we are under sm?

    ReplyDelete
  119. Hello Soh Jia Yi,

Yes the will pay for schooling, and they'll train you and they also give you a dorm with other trainees. :)
SM pays for, food, clothing, shelter and schooling. Plus they train you.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Hey! Just want to ask you a few things, if that's okay. Kekeke.

I'm from Melbourne, Australia; but I'm Chinese. I can speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin, a bit of Vietnamese and a bit of Japanese. I don't know Korean though, but I heard if you get in, they'll teach you.

What I want to ask is that, am I able to audition even though I'm from Australia? Because they have auditions at US and all. I don't know what to do. And if I do audition by post, how do I know if I got in or not?

    Thanks!
    Joanne.

  123. Hello SM girl ^^

I heard that u help people who wants to be a Sm artist :)
    i'm a singaporean.
i would like to go for SM audition

    i have questions to ask u :D

    1)what is needed for audition?

2)for dancing can we dance without singing?( i'm trying to learn dance :> )

3)sending an email or flying over to L.A/ KOREA would stand a higher chance?

4)If we pass the first round of audition , if we are ask to go korea for second round audition, do we need to pay for our flight fees or they pay for us? :) and also the last round *third round* are they going to pay for our flight?

5)I know Chinese And English and some of the korean language not all but if they became an Sm trainee , will they teach us korean language?

6)if now i'm studying in singapore , 2/3 years i'm going to take my O-LEVELS in signapore but if i passed all the audition, where will i be studying my polys in korea? internationals school? are they going to teach in english or korean language? :)

7)i heard some rumors about plastic surgery , i don know if it's real or fake but if we enter sm , they find us doesn't have good lookings , will they force us to go for plastic surgery or we decide? are they paying for the cost or we paying?

8)if we are dancing for audition , do we need to choose songs from SM entertainment or others? do we need to sing as well when dancing?

    9)Do they look on looks much? 40 - 50 %?
i heard so and 40 - 50 % on talents . can u pls explain to me why they look on looks much? thank you!!!! >.<!

10)if we are under sm entertainment trainee, how long do we need to practice? 3years? 6 years? 5 years?

thanks you so much! :D pls reply me ;)

    ReplyDelete
  124. 19 is not to old. But being older you HAVE to be better. When SM sees a 19 year old and 14 year old with the same amount of talent their going to choose the younger one.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Hello Joanne,

Its really good that you speak all of those languages!!! Really good! Yes they will teach you Korean if you get in.

Email or Mail can work. If you pass that way they'll contact you and set up an audition date, Global or maybe in Korea.

    Hope you make it! :D

    ReplyDelete
  126. Hello!
Yes I want to help people get into SM :D

    1)what is needed for audition?
What you need is a few songs memorized perfectly, and work on staying on pitch. Learn to dance if you don’t. Don’t do anything to hard just something that isn’t sloppy.

2)for dancing can we dance without singing?( i'm trying to learn dance :> )
No. If you audition for dancing they will make you sing.

3)sending an email or flying over to L.A/ KOREA would stand a higher chance?
Flying to Korea would give you the biggest chance. But if that’s too hard email would be my next choice. LA auditions might be closed. A friend of mine went there and they were closed. :(

4)If we pass the first round of audition , if we are ask to go korea for second round audition, do we need to pay for our flight fees or they pay for us? :) and also the last round *third round* are they going to pay for our flight?
They will pay for you flight, is what I heard from my friend in SM. But she might have been talking only about the third round.

5)I know Chinese And English and some of the korean language not all but if they became an Sm trainee , will they teach us korean language?
Yes they will teach you. Knowing English and or Korean will higher your chances of getting in.

6)if now i'm studying in singapore , 2/3 years i'm going to take my O-LEVELS in signapore but if i passed all the audition, where will i be studying my polys in korea? internationals school? are they going to teach in english or korean language? :)
If you get accepted you will train, and do your school in Korea. Yes they teach you a bunch of languages. English, Korean, Chinese, Japanese.

7)i heard some rumors about plastic surgery , i don know if it's real or fake but if we enter sm , they find us doesn't have good lookings , will they force us to go for plastic surgery or we decide? are they paying for the cost or we paying?
Nobody is forced (my friend said so) But if you want it they will pay for it.

8)if we are dancing for audition , do we need to choose songs from SM entertainment or others? do we need to sing as well when dancing?
Okay don’t sing a song from SM Entertainment. And you don’t have to sing when dancing.

    9)Do they look on looks much? 40 - 50 %?
i heard so and 40 - 50 % on talents . can u pls explain to me why they look on looks much? thank you!!!! >.<!
SM is known for Fresh Faces. So they need nice looking people. It’s about 50-50 for looks and talents.

10)if we are under sm entertainment trainee, how long do we need to practice? 3years? 6 years? 5 years?
It depends, some learn faster than others. But somewhere between 2 to 6 years is average.

Hope I helped and you asked a lot of questions

    ReplyDelete
  127. Oh! Thanks! Hehehe. Do you, by chance, know SME's email and post address? If so, that'd be a great help! :D

Oh yeah, sorry. What do you think are the chances of them choosing from post/email auditions? I have a feeling they don't do anything with them. :S

  130. Okay SM Entertainments email address and post address.

    Email Address for Korea.

    smaudition@smtown.com

    That’s the Korean Post address.

    S.M. Entertainment,
    521 Apgujung 2Dong,
    Kangnam-gu, Seoul
    South Korea

They normal send you at least an invitation to attend a global audition. And they will give you higher priority if you’re accepted through email and show up at a global audition.

And be patient for them to reply. It can take up to 2 months!!!

  131. Hello Delia!

1.Do we have to pay for the audition?

    No the auditions are free.

2.If we are singing for the audition, do we have to have a video of ourselves singing with our faces shown?

Yes. Make sure you record yourself on a camera. They need to make sure its really you singing.

    Hope I helped! :D

    ReplyDelete
  132. Thanks! So like I have to do video audition? Not like JYPE where you can choose to only do voice and upload photos? It has to be live?

    ReplyDelete
  133. can just use webcam to record a video of the person singing?

    ReplyDelete
  134. Yes, when recording your talent it must be live and everything.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Webcam.... I'm not sure. I wouldn't as the quality would be extremly low on quality.

    ReplyDelete
  136. If we were to record a video of the person singing would it be better to use a handphone or webcam to record?

    ReplyDelete
  137. Alrights! Thanks so much. I think I'm going to try out for it. Do you know how to apply for auditions? Like what do we include? Our name, address etc. What else?

  139. Okay Delia,

For recording its best to have a camera. But if that won't work. Handphone or Webcam... do the one that has higher Megapixals. :)

    Hey Popping!

Okay the weekly auditions are held both in America and Korea.

You have to prepare a lot of songs to sing! A dance, and what ever else your auditioning for.

The address for the USA weekly audition is.

4322 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 300 Los Angeles, CA 90010

The one in Korea. I don't know what it is.
    Sorry.

I'll give more details if you ask about certain things. Telling you everything is going to be really hard to do.

    Your English is fine.

I've prepared all for this event...... what should I do?? Please help me ..... please .....

    Thank you!

  167. Hey SM Girl!
Apparently that Facebook Event is fake. I sent in my audition to smaudition@smtown.com already, and I got a reply message. Is the message an auto-message or is it really from the Audition Manager?

  169. Hey JaeJae!

Its okay, if your alredy done go ahead and send it to smaudition@smtown.com

    Thats SM's offical address.

    Jobabyy,

Its auto. A lot of people get that, its what sm town sends to nerly everyone. It is audition manager though, its a group of people looking at the auditions tapes.

    I think it is anyway.

Good luck! Hope you guys make it!

    ReplyDelete
  170. Oh, so does that mean I didn't make it in? Some said it's a kind rejection letter telling you tp audition again? :(

    ReplyDelete
  171. No it’s not like that. If you go to a global audition they will pay more attention to you as you've already passed the email audition.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Oh, okay. :) That gave me more hope now. Haha. Thanks. How do they know it's you though?

    ReplyDelete
  173. ok, so i am confused...
what happens if you pass the e-mail audition? Does everyone pass the e-mail audition?

I live in Canada, so do you know when they are coming here?

What is the difference between global and the weekly auditions?

I am 15 turning 16 in May :) and I am only 5'3 is that too short?

I am Canadian, but im of chinese decent, and SM entertainment had a really bad reputation after what happened with Hankung from SuJu, so is sm entertainment a bad choice for me??

sry for all the questions <3

    ReplyDelete
  174. On the fill out sheet when auditioning for the global it will say walkin or email. You would say email as you've already done it and passed. :)

    Hey Zozo

No not everyone passes the email. I've known a few people that never got replied.

They are working on the global audition dates right now I think. So hopefully sometime soon.

Global there are a ton of people audition and you'll audition with ten other people. Were as weekly you audition by youself.

No thats not too short. You'll likely to grow more and about 3 or 4 girls from SNSD are shorter than you. So no worries.

I'm not so sure SM is like what the rumors say. Sometimes artist get greedy and sign really long contracts. But actaully you can choose how long you want the contact.

Its okay asking so many. I just hope I helped. :D

    ReplyDelete
  175. thanks you've been a big help!

Do you HAVE to send a picture...since you send a video wouldn't it be alright if you a video because they can see your face in the video? >.<

    ReplyDelete
  176. I'm more video-genic than photogenic :D

    ReplyDelete
  177. Yes you have to send a picture of youself. And also a video.

Its good that you video-genic. Nice plus :)

    ReplyDelete
  178. Oh I see. Thanks for all the help SM Girl! Have you auditioned yet?

    ReplyDelete
  179. ahhhh im i too late to send in my email audition???
i was thinking of sending it this weekend or maybe by wednesday ?
coz if the global auditions finish and they hvnt even sseen my email. thn im pretty screwed arent i?

    ReplyDelete
  180. hi,i wanted to send in the email audition. can i know more detail about it?cause i cant get into sm entertainment site.

  183. Oh. Hey SM Girl! I was wondering, how do you send it to them by Post? Like, do you burn it on a DVD or a CD with your application in the video or separately in a word document?

    ReplyDelete
  184. Zozo,

Its not a bother. :) I'm not sure if they pay for it. But my guess is that they would.

    Jobabyy,

Yes you burn it onto a DVD. I'd like fill out the application on your PC. Then just print it and send it along with the package.

  185. Hello SM girl!

i am from singaporean , 14 years old and i have some questions to ask you :)

1)I would like to audition for dancing but
i heard it's useless if u bring your cd over there for audition because
they will random pick out a song for you to dance.
    is it true???

2)I know some of the korean language , will it give me a higher chance to go in?

3)2 more years i will be taking my levels and trying to audition in 15 end of the year there throughout EMAIL ,
if i success and get in ,
can i ask for one more year in singapore to study before going to korea or
do i have to quit my school in singapore and move over to korea and train?

4)if we want to go or being ask to go for plastic surgery, are we paying or they are paying for us?

5)how long is the training years? what will happen to us if we didn't get the chance to debut?

    6) I heard that they look at LOOKS over TALENT , is it real? so if a person doesn't have talent but have good looks , will that person get in?

    7) is 15~16 years old a suitable age to go for audition? or is it too old?

  186. Hello SM girl!

i am from singaporean , 14 years old and i have some questions to ask you :)

1)I would like to audition for dancing but
i heard it's useless if u bring your cd over there for audition because
they will random pick out a song for you to dance.
    is it true???

I'm not sure if that is true or not. For a weekly audition as long as you bring your own CD they will use it. But for global... I'm not sure.

2)I know some of the korean language , will it give me a higher chance to go in?

    Yes it would. :D

3)2 more years i will be taking my levels and trying to audition in 15 end of the year there throughout EMAIL ,

can i ask for one more year in singapore to study before going to korea or
do i have to quit my school in singapore and move over to korea and train?

You work out a date with them when you go over but my guess is it would be a lot sooner than a year. :(

4)if we want to go or being ask to go for plastic surgery, are we paying or they are paying for us?

    They would pay.

5)how long is the training years? what will happen to us if we didn't get the chance to debut?

It depends on how much training you need. The average training years are 2-5 years.

    6) I heard that they look at LOOKS over TALENT , is it real? so if a person doesn't have talent but have good looks , will that person get in?

SM is known for choosing good looking people. As long as your Asian you have a chance to get in.

    7) is 15~16 years old a suitable age to go for audition? or is it too old?

16 is the perfect age for auditoning.

    8) if we're under sm entertainment and a trainee , do we have to pay for ourselfs or are they going to pay for us?

As a trainee you are not paid. They will give you a place to stay, food, clothes and a small amount of money every weekend.

9)Are they going to pay for our flight to korea and back to singapore for second round audition if we pass the email audition?

I wouldn't know. But they will pay for the third round to Korea.

10)if i'm still a trainee in korea , are the trainee allow to have handphones with them and contact with their parent?

I'm sure they do. Every tainee probably wants to talk to their family, so I'm sure they'd let you.

    Good luck!

  187. Hey SM girl, you can call me Peter
I would like to ask you some questions!

    1) Can you send an email audition any time you want to?

    2) When you send an email audition or go to a live audition for dancing and singing, do you have to perform more than one song and dance?

    3) For dancing are you allowed to dance in any other way than freestyle?

    4) Do you have any idea what is going to be in the second and third round for auditions?

Thanks. Hoping for a quick reply =)

    ReplyDelete
  188. Oh yea and by the way
Could you just sing and dance for 1 audition
    instead of doing 2 auditions?

    ReplyDelete
  189. Hello Peter,
I'm very sorry for not answering sooner.

    1) Can you send an email audition any time you want to?

    Yes anytime! :D

    2) When you send an email audition or go to a live audition for dancing and singing, do you have to perform more than one song and dance?

Not always, my weekly audition there were no judges. Only one lady and she just had me sing and dance for a camera she held.

    3) For dancing are you allowed to dance in any other way than freestyle?

Yes. SM's site says it can also be, Hip Hop, Ballet and I think any time is allowed.

    4) Do you have any idea what is going to be in the second and third round for auditions?

No I don't know about those as I haven't heard back from my weekly yet. If I get called back I'll let you know what its like.

    ReplyDelete
  190. I'm not sure I understand that question. Could you try to explain for my punny brain?

    3) How do I send my audition from singapore to korea via email? And if I decide to send my audition by post in a CD,would I have a greater chance getting in?

4)What is SM Town's address and email in Korea?

    5) If I get in SM Town in Korea, would I become a singer/dancer or a SM Trainer?

    6) I only know 2 languages,Chinese and English. Is that okay?

    7) I am in Secondary 1 right now and if i get accepted, do I continue my studies there?

    8) If I get accepted, will they pay for my school fees, my allowance and my lodging?

That is all I need to ask. Thanks for the trouble. If you want to talk to me personally, you can contact me at this email: camie219@hotmail.com

You sound like you’ll get in. It reminds me of Krystal from Fx. And also I’m ¼ Japanese, ¼ Chinese! :D
You chances of getting in sound extremely high! What languages do you speak and what instruments do you play?

Email you audition is fine. Auditioning in person is even better. Which ever you do make sure you mention you've been scouted before.

    Good luck! :D
